Talking about the possibility and realization of “religious science” or its absence is one of the vital topics in the philosophy of religion. Some of the contemporary thinkers have denied religious science in the sense of deriving empirical and human sciences from religious sources, and they have provided reasons for their claims, as the following:
“The distinction between science and religion in the three areas of subject, goal, and method”, “distinction in the stage of compilation and judgement”, “the possibility of some values not being eternal and their historicity”, “non-Islamicity of the principle of knowledge”, “the lack of necessary raw materials in the religious sources”, “lack of efficiency and benefits of religious science to everyone.”
In this research, the approach to and arguments against religious science have been assessed and analyzed through the analytical-rational method. The denial of religious science by some contemporary modern thinkers comes from the fact that they failed to pay attention to the correct and sound meaning of religious science, as well as relying on some incorrect assumptions such as the historicity of religion, the conflict between science and religion, the reduction of religion into religious experience, and the confusion between the stage of reality and stage of affirmation. |
